A Study of the Status and Problems of Field work Practice in Social Work Education

Abstract
The field work as a learning experience enadled to obtain a sufficient and dynamic knowledges, and lead the students to take a scientific method in solving a problems, while providing the opportunity to research to secure the qualities for professional social workers.
In viewing the vital importance of field work, I hereby intend to discuss the field practice realities and its accompanying problems.
1. Insufficent orientation by school authority in placing students to field practicing agency, also lacking considerations for students attitudes¢¥ and interests.
2. The orientation by agency on policy and its works, and its role is insufficient to piovide a feeling of stability to students.
3. Predominant students receiving the case study that has hardly to do with the application of one¢¥s own ability and social work methodology, the most of students are not being provided with a logical supplements by agency in dealing with the case study.
4. In conference between supervisor and students the supervision method tends to be a downwarded infusion method which is ineffective to increase students¢¥ vulantary interests for study.
5. The agency do not allow students a sufficient time to record, and supervisor do not review students¢¥ review satisfactorily.
6. During the evaluation by supervisor, without student¢¥s participation, we can hardly expect to obtain an efficient evaluation.
7. Unexpectedly, many of the supervisor lacks the professional knowledges, and do not majored in social work, and for these reasons students do not recognize supervisor¢¥s capacity, and naturally the desirable relationship between students and supervisor can not exist.
8. Predominant field work supervisor is insufficient in number also there are not many field practicing agency, and many of the students think the agency is inappropriate as their field practicing place.
9. Predominant school authorities and agencies do not hold the periodical field work supervision.
10. School authorities and agencies do not form a organizational : inter-realtionship for field work supervision.
In viewing our realities comparing to above problems there lies a hard-to-solve
difficulties, but at least we can extenuate this difficulty by promoting a fundamental supervising method as following:
1. Students to choose the field practicing agency in accordance with their attitudes and interests.
2. Agency to provide a logical supplement to case study.
3. To improve downwarded conference between students and supervisor.
4. The participation of students in self-evaluation.
5. School authority and agency to hold a periodical field study supervision.
I have demonstrated some method to solve the above problems, but intrinsical results will be obtained when school authority, agency, and students improve the dynamic field study attitudes in harmonious relationship.
